Our last days as North Carolinians...

Our days in North Carolina are numbered, and so we took some time these last couple of weeks to say goodbye to our friends. We had a special play date at the park with our buddies, and a neighborhood goodbye party at the Brock house and then a special dinner with Hannah and her folks. We have been very loved in our neighborhood, which is teeming with small children-- and we will miss it very much! We didn't take any pictures at the neighborhood party because we forgot the camera. We have some from Hannah's house though!

Another thing we're going to miss so much is our ginormous swim team! Whoa, that's a lot of Amberjacks!

We're happy that we only miss one meet though, since the season ends mid July. It has been so much fun and our first real organized sport.
We will also miss our school friends. Here I am in the Wake County School news! This was at our Writer's Workshop celebration. I'm the middle picture on the bottom.

And Mina decided she wanted to sqeeeeeze in one last milestone before our departure. Mom got her these books last week since we're all out of school. Mina already had her letter sounds and was beginning to figure out some blends. And so she practiced during quiet time and then...
She's a beginning reader! Way to go Mina!

Mina's first swim meet & a birthday celebration

Marina is getting too big I think. Every day it seems she's just a little bit closer to catching all the way up to me, and I don't think that's such a good idea!
Here's Mina's story from quiet time last week. In case you need some translating, that says "Once upon a time, Mina..." She said she got stuck there. That picture is of Mina looking at a heart. So maybe there's more to come? (Maybe not!)

Mina also just learned how to swim, which is a pretty good thing, since she joined the swim team this year!
We're all pretty proud of Marina on this point. In February we went to the indoor pool at Wintergreen, and she wouldn't even get off the steps. Look at our big girl now!

I'm making gains in this area too. My freestyle has gotten lots better. I even won my freestyle heat on Tuesday!

Mina can't wait until our next meet (which is today). She stores her participation ribbons under her pillow.

Swimming and writing isn't all we have in common these days. We also love the weather! Here's the forecast!

These are pictures from Storm Fest, which was a big event at the Museum of Natural Sciences. Michaela came out to see all the action with us!

And of course, Mina and I also have some very important friends in common. Our sweet next door neighbor is leaving for her annual Canada visit next week, so we celebrated her fourth birthday a few weeks early with a pool party. Here's pictures from Hannah's big day!

On Sunday we celebrated our dad with some special Daddy time and donuts. Happy Father's Day!

And so you can see Mina is catching up fast. The one thing she can't do yet is ride a two wheeler. So here we are, each doing what we do best. I ride, and Marina sings. Mom wants you to know that this was all our idea. She went in to change Jessa's diaper and came back out to this free musical event in the driveway. Nashville, watch out. A new singer is coming to town!

No more teachers, no more books!

School's out! Here's some pictures of our
2010-2011 classes. We're going to miss our friends so much!

But, we know we have happy times ahead, and also we know that some of our friends are lifelong friends, no matter where we live.

Here's a picture from our trip up to the DC area to celebrate Ian's 3rd birthday!

We had a blast last weekend, but were very, very tired from all that celebration. And it showed at the pool on Monday morning. Here's Jessa in the toy box in the baby pool. She just climbed right in and laid down. Night night Jess.

But, we didn't actually let her get any rest. That would not be sisterly.

And here's a couple of pictures from our last trip to the home of the Wool E Bull.

Tonight, we have our first swim meet. So you'll want to tune in on Monday-Tuesday-ish to see how we did!

almost summer

Summertime is coming!
I've got just a few more days of Kindergarten yet, and then it will be summer vacation!
The people at our pool know all about how we can't wait for summertime, and so they open up the pool at 4pm, so we can run across the cul-de-sac, over the creek and past the tennis courts to get there right after school!

The only thing sad about summer is that I miss some of my school friends. Since I go to a magnet school, some of my friends live in my neighborhood-- and some don't. But, hopefully I'll have a few more birthday parties like this one to celebrate with everyone before we move away!

On Sunday, we went to see the Blue Monster. Jessa loves him!

Stay tuned for next time, when we go on our regular NoVA roadtrip to see our buddy Kyla!
